How We Met
You may be surprised to know that Scott and I dated for the first time in 2008. We met on match.com and dated very casually for a few months. I had remembered seeing Scott's profile on various dating sites for years but had never met until then. I wasn't in the right place for a serious relationship so I ended things. (Dumb!) Scott says that he always thought of me as "the one that got away" (aww)
Cut to March of 2011... I had a random dream about hanging out with Scott and woke up thinking that it was really strange that I was dreaming about someone I hadn't seen or thought of in 3 years. Then, a few days later I was surprised to see an email from Scott in my inbox! He messaged to say that he had thought of me and wanted to check in on how I was doing. Serendipitous if I do say so myself.
We decided to get together for drinks at Station 280, both thinking that we were just getting together to catch up, but it was apparent throughout the night that there was still a lot of chemistry there. I challenged Scott to a game of darts and when things started to get competitive I told him that we should figure out a prize for the winner. I was hoping he would say the winner would get a kiss, but Scott suggested we play for the bar tab. (face palm) I lost the 3 game series and ended up picking up the tab! Luckily for Scott, I still agreed to go out on a second date.
Engaged.
Scott and I had been planning to go up to Duluth to celebrate our birthdays for a few months. He wouldn't tell me much about the plans, but I knew that I wanted to take him to Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse and of course stop at Betty's Pies.
A few days before we were going to leave my mom called me in a panic saying that they had shut down the cabin and forgot to turn off the electricity and wanted to know if Scott and I could stop by the cabin on our way to Duluth. I told her she was nuts, but promised I would ask Scott about it... fully intending to put the kibosh on this 2 hour detour of hers. But, of course, my boy scout insisted that we had to go to the cabin and help out my parents "so they would know that they could count on him" Needless to say, I was not jazzed about this.
Cut to early Saturday am... Comfy clothes on, good music on the radio and a beautiful fall day and we are heading to Duluth... by way of Crosslake. My crabiness quickly melted as we got into Crosslake and make a quick stop at Zorbaz for a beer and cheese bread and then was completely gone when we got to the cabin and everything looked so gorgeous.
We ended up down by the lake and I was taking pictures and snapped a couple of Scott. He insisted on taking a few photos of me even though I had no makeup on. I turned away from the camera and looked out over the lake and when I turned back around Scott was down on his knee... My first thought? "Why are you taking pictures of my butt?!" But then I looked down and saw the ring box in his hands and it was instantly a sobbing wreck. Such a beautiful moment in the perfect beautiful location.
We then spent the drive to Duluth calling and texting friends and family to share our happy news! it was at this point that I found out that Scott had asked my parents for my hand weeks prior to this and they conspired to get me up to the cabin. Scott knew he wanted to propose there because it is my favorite place in the world and the place where we first said we loved each other.
Aw..
